LATEST TRIALS RESULTS

AN ARMAC CUB has won the Isle of Man International Classic Trial 2011, for the second year running. Juan Knight won the Pre-65 Premier on an Armac Cub belonging to Roy ‘Ago’ Wilson.

The trial was generally considered to be the toughest yet, with Juan dropping 10, compared with last year’s clean (Premier scores ranged from 10 to 186 marks lost) . Michael Irving had a storming ride on his Armac Cub, taking 5th place (losing 4th by 1 mark, after being docked a mystery 5 on Saturday) and winning the Abbotswood Trophy for Best Rider Under 35.

The Premier route was dominated by Triumph Tiger Cubs, after the heavy rain on Saturday created slick conditions and made hard going for the bigger bikes. Five Armac Cubs featured in the top 20, including David Thorpe, Steve Collins and Duncan Macdonald; four others in the top 20 were equipped with Armac parts.

Congratulations to all; we’ll be back on the island in 2012.

2011

Judy Macdonald finally got back on her Armac Cub on February 13th, for her first ride since crashing on the Isle of Man in September. It took a lap to conquer her newfound fear of rock steps, but she pulled through to win the Clubman route of the Yorkshire Classic trial at Addingham Moorside.

Dave Thorpe has won the Hillsborough Classic National, the final round of the ACU Traditional Trials Championship (31st October 2010) on his Armac Cub. It was a tough two-lap trial, shown by the final scores: Dave won with 8 marks lost, with series winner Carl Batty 5 marks behind. “Every section was cleanable, but nothing was ride-through; you really had to concentrate,” said Thorpe.

Dave Thorpe, a many-times winner of this series, has been riding, and winning on, an Armac Cub (200cc) for a decade, after being heavily involved in the development of the original frames.

Thorpy will be in action next at the Classic Experts in Rhayader (November 13).

Juan Knight won the Isle of Man 2-Day Classic Trial (September 4-5) on an Armac Cub belonging to Roy ‘Ago’ Wilson. Local lad Juan completed the weekend on clean, an incredible ride considering the severity of the sections.

Three Armac Cubs featured in the Top 10, with five in the Top 20, while many others used Armac components. The full Armac Cubs on the Premier route were:

Juan Knight, 1st, on 0 marks lost

Dave Thorpe, 6th, on 14 marks

Michael Owen, 7th, on 16 marks

Stephen Collins, 18th, on 27 marks

Michael Irving, 20th, on 29 marks. Michael rode an Armac Cub built by his father Hugh, which was finished the night before the trial! Michael also won the Abbotswood Trophy for Best Under 35 Rider.
